2008 Harley Davidson XL 1200N Sportster 1200 Nightster – Motorbike Bicycle
Harley-Davidson could really do with increasing its European sales right now. After 18 years of continuous growth, the American home market is suffering. It’s easy to blame the sub-prime mortgage issues affecting most aspects of the economy, and undoubtedly these are a factor, but Harley’s traditional customer base continues to age, and sales appear to have hit a natural ceiling. We’ve covered two of them already, the FXDF Dyna Fat Bob and FXCW Rocker. General information | |

The Sportster has always had a lean, fundamental look, and this is beautifully enhanced by the Nightster’s retro minimalism, encapsulated mostly by the deletion of a lot of chrome -wheels feature black-painted rims, for instance. The Nightster’s appearance over here has been delayed by European homologation regulations: US models have red flashing indicators that are easier to make but they aren’t allowed. It’s not fast in motorcycle terms but sufficiently rapid in a broader context, and, crucially, it feels good, something of a Harley speciality. This is worth noting as older Sportsters were unpleasant things to ride, vibrating quite nastily while feeling laboured and reluctant to obey the throttle
