2008 Harley Davidson FLSTSB Cross Bones – Motorbike Bicycle
2008 Harley Davidson FLSTSB Cross Bones – Motorbike Bicycle
Most of the Dark avoid Customs gloss and glitter acres of chrome and flashy paint for black-finished parts such as mirrors, hand and foot controls, engine finish, headlamp nacelle, wheels and so on and so forth. If all the bits on a particular model are not blackened, as is the case with the brilliant Night Train or Dyna Street Bob, then, at least, bike darker, easier to bring color, often in the matte.

I enjoyed my time at one of the participants at the beginning of darks, Nightster, when we tested a little more than a year ago, long before the words ever spoken Custom dark. Cross Bones follow Nightster, dark pattern, the black bits everywhere. Rear fender struts, swingarm, oil tank, round air cleaner cover, and a half months old-skool rubber floor pads, handlebars, mirrors, turn signals, tank-mounted speedometer including idiot lights, lamps, springer front-end, front fender bracket and wire -spoke wheels all have black gloss. About the only pieces that are not black gas cap, hood and slash-cut dual exhaust.
What distinguishes Cross Bones apart from bikes in the Softail line, as well as some of the other Dark Customs is an allusion to past bike paddle. Mini ape-hanger handlebars are rubber mounted to the styling cues simple bike responsibly. Minimal front fender, bold display 5-inch wide fat, 16-inch Dunlop D402 tires. Move to the rear fender, because there are a lot of exposure, 200mm-wide (7.8 “) 17-inch tires, and D402 are.
The course I will, as much as tank braided leather strap, which connects visually with a simple instrument console on a 5-gallon tank mounted accented. The console is very simple, in fact, that the analog speedometer read only in single and double digits with “MPH x 10″ is reminiscent of the bottom. This is inlayed with a small LCD screen gauges, dual trip, odometer, low fuel and oil warning. The usual array of idiot lights attract the attention of the mixture into the console, appear only when lit. Smooth as the instrument package, I should note that while wearing a full face helmet I was forced to tilt my head to see the teachers under my eyes from the road for a long time.
Putting the Cross Bones in their natural habitat from urban road surfaces and street canyon fun the first place I found that I expect one thing from this bike and it gives me something else.
Shock and awe! Big bobber imitator rides like a dream. The front and fat rear tire combo does not interfere with the steering wheel or make the long walk in the corner. Slopes mind, though, as with any car, ground clearance problems. Holding a smooth continuous arc is easy, belying the bike 737-lb claimed wet weight. There is no easy task considering, for example, that the bone weighs 55 pounds more than the Night Train with full fuel, etc.
Half expected the chassis flexing corners in quick transition, I was double glad that I experience something, if any, movement in the frame. The front of the low-tech damping provided excellent for almost all surfaces with the exception of high speed (steep angle) lumps. Simple spring and includes related and chromed shock simply not reacting quickly enough to fill with enough cushioning such imperfections. If not, it’s enough.
On the way forward may or may not work, depending on trip selected tariffs. Anything over 80 mph or so that work can not only hold against the wind, but the springer front end resembles a classic start riding some of the drill 100 pounds. Keep a reasonable highway speeds and you feel as cold as you can see.
